Talked to a few guys and the streams are real low. I'll be heading down to the bigger portion of the Root River to get into some deeper holes that hold trout before they make the move up into the smaller branches of the river.

Going solo due to the fire over in St. Charles, two of my buddies who were going with me are both vol. fireman over there and they will be on duty all night into tomorrow. May they be safe!

It was a good morning. The haze floating in from St. Charles made the sun stay under even that much longer than usual and kept it cool on the Root River. The rivers were really low, and it was hard finding fast running deep holes that I am used to this time of the year. My plan was to hit the "old faithful" spots early, then move my way into Lanesboro, and follow the river up to Preston.

Plans changed when a wash-out wrecked one spot, and the lack of current in normal areas made for slow fishing. As we have all read about in ice-fishing, using the run and gun tactics proved to be successful for me this morning. I would find an eddy or riffle, and cast up to five times. If I did not get a hit, I would move on. I worked alot of holes, and switched lures to see what was working best and raps and spinners were the ticket.

I caught 12-15 fish and had one stole from me by a Bald Eagle. I don't carry a stringer, and when I caught a trout and left it in a shallow spot on a island, a Baldie moved in on it when I was about a hundred yards away. Oh well, it was a blast anyways.

In the pics there is about a five pound roughfish that hit my damn rap, and a rainbow that is almost the size of my lure. :happy1:

Nice trout. You took some really nice pictures I especially like the last pic, it would look good framed

Thanks glock, makes for interesting pictures when they're rolling around on the ground next to your pole. That's just how he ended up so I got lucky!
