Anyone ever do the houseboat rental thing on Rainy Lake??  Thinking of going this summer with a group of people.  Any info would be helpful as we're just starting to look into it.

My folks used to do this every summer.  They and a group of their friends, they brought their boats along and towed them behind the houseboat.  I don't know the size of houseboat they rented, but it was big enough for 3 couples.  A great time was had by all.  They rented from Voyagaire Houseboats & Lodge.  Here's their site for more information.

They are also a MNO site sponsor-so tell them you saw them on MNO!  :happy1:

Haven't done Rainy Lake but have done Lake of the Woods out of Sioux Narrows Ontario.  It's a blast and fishing is incredible.  Don't know if it's allowable or not for me to post the link to their site here as I don't think they are a sponsor.  We also pulled our fishing boats up and pulled them with the houseboat.  Navigated in about 20-30 miles or so and tied the houseboat to a remote island area and used that as our base.  Used our fishing boats from there.   We stocked the houseboat with gas, food, freshwater, lots of beverages, etc.  The rental place would make one trip out if you needed anything like more bait, gas, etc.  They could be contacted via radio.  I highly recommend you get something put together.  My advice:  Plan ahead carefully for what you will need and want to bring along.  And make sure you go with people you know well and get along with.   :happy1:

Post away Joe-maybe I'll get lucky and talk them into being a site sponsor!  ;)  :whistling:

I've done it a couple of times out of Crane Lake. It's a blast. It's like driving around in your living room - with your kitchen and bedrooms attached. And like what was said above bring your boats (and it will come with one) and tow them along behind.

I'll second and third everything that's been said.  It was a blast we went to Rainy lake and out of Rainy lake house boats if i remember correctly.  Great time and the fishing was great.
