Me and my buddies are going up to leech lake for opener. None of us have hunted leech lake before or any big lakes up north before. We plan on hunting public spots the whole weekend. Anyone know of any good areas we can get at up there or any tips on what to expect. We could use some help because we know there are plenty of public spots up there but we really just dont know what to expect as far as how many ducks have been up there this year or how many decoys we should use ect.... anyone have any good info?

Kinda late to start planning don't ya think?Best pull out a good map,get back in the bays that have rice, you might want to get there on friday and go for a boat ride, you'll have alot of competition like always up there, some folks like to hunt the smaller water in the area. Also becareful on "IDeeing" your birds, there are good #'s of local bills up there (2 p er day/person)and also #'s of ringbills in the area.

Dont get the wrong idea snow, we've been planning for a long time, we are just a little unsure of what to expect. All of us have been hunting for long enough to ID ducks, we just dont know where exactly would be the best spot to hunt on the map, as far as big bays small bays, back waters or big water I guess thats our biggest issue. However I didnt think there would be alot of competition up there.. Thanks alot for the tip.

Boy Bay on Leech Lk. is a good area for ducks. There are plenty of areas to set up it is
a good size bay. If you need a place to stay sugar point resort is just down the road.
Be safe it can get pretty rough back in the bay if wind is from the right direction
