I had a doe and 2 fawns eating in front of me. I said to myself, just stay on this land and will be ok. The neighbors had 24 in there group and walked every little thicket and shot anything that moved.

same with the 4 other propertys i hunt. they line up in there stands right on the property line and everything that walks by gets blasted. we do QDM on 3 out of the 4 propertys and its tougher when the neighboors shoot all the young ones you pass up on. but thats were the arguement begins on if your a meat hunter or trophy hunter. so cant get mad can get a little frusterated but thats about it.

We can have the QDM vs. meat hunter debate forever.  It is a tough choice to make.

I personally will shoot the first deer I see provided it doesn't have spots.  I hunt for meat.  After that, the next deer I shoot depends on the tag I have left or the size.

This is a debate that could never end.  I honestly don't know my view point.  I tend to lean personally to shooting older deer because I get more meat, but believe very strongly that every hunter buys their own license and that entitles them to any legal deer out there.  I congratulate all the hunters on any size of deer they choose to harvest!

How many deer get wounded when you do drives and they are running wide open only to die and get wasted?

Our group doesn't drive.  We sit for 90% of the hunt.  If we do move to kick up deer, one guy usually walks slowly and circles the other.  This has worked well in the past.

I see why you would think that, but the number is probably a lot less than you think.  It depends a lot on where you are making the drive to.  If you push towards a big field then there is a much better chance of shooting a deer in the guts while it runs across.  In my experience, most times deer will take the path that exposes them the least and that is where the people standing on the drive shoot them.  When you are standing in those spots the deer are not running full speed, usually they are just trotting or walking out.  Really, when you make a drive you walk right by most of the deer in the woods.  They don't have to get up until you are right next to them and usually that does not happen.
