Trout designation to be removed from Cass County’s Willard Lake
(Released November 23, 2009)

Willard Lake, an eight-acre lake in central Cass County, would no longer be managed for trout under a change being proposed by fisheries staff of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

The proposal would remove the lake from the designated stream trout lake list due to poor results managing the lake for trout. Willard Lake is located about four miles northeast of Backus.

The lake was most recently stocked with rainbow trout in May 2008.

The deadline for public comments is Feb. 8, 2010. Address comments or questions to Harlan Fierstine, area fisheries supervisor, 07316 State Highway 371 NW, Walker, MN 56484; 218-547-1683. Comments also may be sent to Mark Ebbers, trout program consultant, Minnesota DNR, 500 Lafayette Road, St. Paul, MN 55155-4020.
