LOTW Report 1-17-10

A January thaw! The weather has warmed up and the fish have been active the past several days. The fishing has been excellent and it has been consistent, with the best bite occurring midday from 10am-3pm. We are fishing out in the deep mud/sand off of Pine Island in 32-34’ of water. Fish for the dinner table have been good sized. Walleyes 15-18” along with 12-15” Saugers, have been the typical sized keeper fish during the past week. The Saugers seem to be running a bit bigger on average out in the deeper water than they were earlier in the season. Guests have been seeing a nice mix of larger Walleye as well. There have been good numbers of 20-25” fish caught, and a few trophy Walleye as well.

The school of fish we are currently on is strong in numbers! Fishermen on snowmobiles have reported only fair fishing farther north during the last week and overall so far for the winter. With these big schools of fish on the south end, we may be able to save guests valuable fishing time with shorter bomber rides for much of the winter.

The ten day forecast looks great. The weatherman is calling for daytime highs in the 20’s with overnight lows staying above zero. With the looks of the forecast fishing should stay hot!
