Here is a picture of my brother in law prior to planting 400 pines in a CRP field.  Believe me, you don't want to see the "after" picture.

thats a lot of trees.  Where did you get them and did the 2 of you plant all of them by hand?  How long did it take you?

We usually order them (order in the fall for spring planting) from Itasca nursery.  It's located west of Grand Rapids.  The trees pictured run from 17 to 25 cents depending on variety etc.  The good thing is they are growing in the plant bands so you don't have to rush to get them in the ground like bare root trees.  They all got planted by hand.  I would like to say I helped him but I bailed on Friday noon after turkey hunting. I had been at the land four other times during the week and things were piling up.  At least that's my story.  We planted them out east of the "shack".

Did you plant them with shooting lanes from the "shack"?

Looks like the same 500 we got from them. Are those Norway Spruce? Those are a 100 times easier to plant than the ones you get from the DNR. There's also no transplant stress and they start growing right away. The trees we got from the DNR we got 1 1/2 months later than the ones from Itasca and they were still dormant while our Norway Spruce had a inch of new growth on them already. No trimming of the roots with these either. I will only buy from the Itasca Nursery from now on.
