DNR temporarily closes section of Willard Munger State Trail
(Released August 20, 2010)

Due to the recent heavy rains, a section of the Willard Munger State Trail in northeastern Minnesota has been temporarily closed until repairs can be made, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
More than a mile of trail is closed between the Buffalo House and 123rd Ave. in the Duluth area. The rains have caused instability in sections of the trail surface and an embankment.

Trail users should plan accordingly due to the trail washout as there are no short, safe, bike-friendly ways around the closure, and the DNR is unable to designate a detour route.

The DNR apologizes for any inconveniences to trail users and reminds users to be safe when they encounter the closed section of trail.

For more information about the Willard Munger State Trail closures, call the DNR Information Center at 651-296-6157, toll-free 888-646-6367.
