Has anyone tried out the ThermaCELL Mosquito Repellent?

I want to know if it truely is "SCENT FREE" - if it's not, I'm not so sure I want to use one.

When I use mine hunting, I buy the outdoors scented pads.

Do the deer smell them? Dunno....but, I've shot some nice bucks while it was on during bow season.

i use mine while turkey hunting goose hunting and bow hunting, LOVE the thing, there is a little bit of scent to it, but nothing that should really alert deer or atleast not that i have noticed.

Yes you can smell it. However I just used one for the first time on Sept 4 th in ND in a ground blind. And the mosquitoes would have killed you. Within 5 min of turning it on every one of them left the blind and we had the screens off. Then 3 does hung out 10 yds in front of us for 5-10 min then killed a nice buck. I don’t know about a tree stand “wind” but in the blind not one bug came in. We used the Earth Sent

I bought a pair of them a couple years ago.  Never used it until last night.  I went in a stand that for some reason had a bunch of skeeters.  I fired the thing up and they were gone.  Worked great as far as I could see.

I was the same way, I picked one up this year and the skeeters were too bad, but they were around - just enough to bother me.  I fired up the Thermacell and they left me alone, I didnt have the earth scent pads, and it seemed to be fine, I saw deer.  You can smell the butane a little when you put your nose close, but I would say it doesnt phase the deer.
Like stated before, its better than swatting bugs and its not a human scent, or foriegn animal scent, so I dont think they will be scared off too easily.

I can smell mine in the stand once and a while. I still had deer around me. They seemed on edge.

well from what ive read over the years , deer really havent associated those scents with danger ive spoke with a few people who study deer behavior and they have pretty much confirmed it .
thats just like smoking in a stand deer really havent associated smoke with people or danger.
there are lots of people who shoot deer with cigs hanging out of there mouth .
theres a guy that owns russels sports in star prarie wi he just shot a nice buck opening weekend 20 minutes after he sprayed repel 100% deet on his hat to keep the skeeters out of his face .
buck walked right in !

so i think the thermocells are a fine invention for hunting !!!!
just my opinion

I agree with hadams, as soon as deer associate the smell with humans it is going to turn out negative.
This year I have been using it and have had deer pick up the smell but not spook, mainly because they have no frame of reference for it. I personally use the unscented ones. I found the earth scent was pretty strong and just didn't feel comfortable using it.

Agree with the last two posts....  :happy1:

I think the main thing we should be concerned about is our scent, human scent.
