Who has tried making them and what were your results?

Last year I tried one on a deer trail along our property line and hung a trail cam overlooking it.  I had 13 bucks stop the first night.  4 were mature bucks.  All that I did was scrape the dirt with my boot under an overhanging branch(don't touch branch) and then poured a gallon of piss we saved from the previous night drinking (hamms).

If you are serious I commend you for that experiment. Either way I am still laughing. I owe you a beer for making that post.

Everything is true except the hamms part.  It was a mix of pffiffers, grainbelt, and some other dark, imported, drink it warm crappy beer that my brother drinks.

Dad drinks 1 bottle every year.  He has 2 left.  I think he is crazy to be drinking that old crap.  He says its not half bad considering how old it is.  I never thought it was good to begin with.  How long is to long?

Lets see...  your dad would have bought a case of Pfeiffers for about $3.00 (real price back then).  If he has 2 bottles left, that means he would have gotten it 22 years ago - about when they stopped making it.  I'd say that is the best $3.00 investment I've ever hear of.  But I don't want to hijack this thread any more by talking about bottled swill.  (Actually, I did like it too.)

I've always wanted to try a mock scrape, but I live so far away from where I hunt, it was never practical.  But now I am re-inspired.  I have to go up in the next couple of weeks to hang a ladder stand for my and my daughter.  I'll scrape one up and let you know how it goes.

I've also heard that it helps to dribble some dark molasses on the over-hang branch to get things started.  Anyone tried that?

We have done the "scrap the dirt and drip bag above it."  Trail cam showed deer but not sure if it was worth it.  Then again, if it held some to the property, easy task to complete.

Ironic thing is too, I have stood in my stand and peed off of it.  Wondering if that helps or hinders deer coming in to my area?

I don't know about making a scrape with old beer but I do know that peeing out of a stand will not have a negative effect on the deer.
P.S.  Maybe it showes my age, but we used to pay $5.00 for two cases of Pfeiffers or Buckhorn beer.

I used to bottle my pee in the stand and bring it out of the woods. A buddy of mine told me that he witnessed a deer licking the leaves right where he had peed so I'm confident it doesn't bother them.

I have to ask "why take the chance?"  If you think or know you have a large mature buck(s) in the area, why would you do anything that is "chancy".

They make scents are designed for mock scrapes.

I for one use a bottle (and hope its big enough  :bonk:) if I gotta go.

I use mock scrapes as soon as the leaves start falling.  Just last week I started my mock scrape line.  It is 6 scrapes in a 300yd path in which I take to my food plot.  I have a camera set up on the first one and last one.  The results are VERY, VERY interesting.  You all should try it.

Sorry if I stepped on anyones feet with my opinion about PEE! :sorry:

No problem steiny, opinions always welcome.  I just have never seen a negative reaction from a deer that encounters human urine.  They are more likely to "check out" the spot than to ignore it.

I have read and performed this 'act' of peeing many times and it has never had a detrimental (sp) effect on my deer hunting. Several articles I've read on the subject have said that it helps not hinders the hunt. Up north we have used mock scrapes when bow-hunting swamp donkeys and they have come right in to investigate. As I have opinionated before, curiousity will kill them time and time again.....my .02.

I agree with the few posts here as well.  I have peed around my stand many times and have not seen a difference in movements of the deer - they just walk right by it.  There has also been a few instances with deer not being affected by the 'other number' (2).
Not to get too graphic, but this year I had to go pretty bad - went about 100 yards from my stand and I had deer come both towards and from that area and walked right by.  I think with all the smells of the woods, fecal matter and urine dont really phase them.  I did however, spray the area with "Scent Killer - Fall scent (smells like decaying leaves and dirt).  That is all I would recommend if you do your business in the woods - if you have it on hand.  :deer:

I pee out of my stand... only issue I have is that it is sometimes loud.  ;)

And... For the heck of it I made my own scrape on the way out.  :happy1:

Sad to say, but I've been doing this "gallon dumping" mock scrape action for about 8 years now.

I have been doing this ever since I let 'er fly off the stand, and had a mature doe come up and literally lick the ground where I pissed.

I always make my mock scrapes with my pee, and have seen on a couple of occasions in real life a doe come up on the mock scrape, put her legs together, do the little jiggly leg thing and shower it as well.

Deer use scrapes and scents year 'round, so I really don't think it's an attractant, more of a "if they are there type scenario" and maybe a little stopping point in-between points A and B.

I always get a ton more pictures of deer when I do this.
