Another weekend of chasing ducks has come and gone.  Cool, clear nights with a northern wind are killing our numbers.  This weekend was SSSSSSSLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW  with ducks.  We did shoot a small mixed bag again with mergs, ringnecks, a bluebill, 2 geese, buffle head, and a black duck, but yikes, where did they all go?  And where's the cold, rainy, nasty,  weather when you need it......

Deer River area.  Didn't start to rain until Sunday noon up there.

Red, myself and Finnpower where hunting north of Winnie around the Squaw Lake area. Fri. morn was alright with a few ducks and geese nailed but then all hell broke loose after that. Clear night and north wind gave the ducks the oppurtunity to head south. What infuriated me was that a few members of the public decided to spend over two hours chasing approximately 2-3000 ducks off of Round Lake with their boats. In my opinion this DIRECTLY affected our bag limits due to our proximity to the lake. Friday evening was terrible with only a few ducks even seen. The sat morning hunt went the same...terrible. Sat. evening the numbers started to pick up with about 5-600 seen for the evening flight with some dropping in for a shot. Sunday morning was a dud at the spot agin and of course when packing up and coming home the real fowl weather started to show up in our area for the first time this year. Murphy's Law I guess. Which reminds me.....if I ever run into Murphy.....I'd like to have a few words with him about a few things!!

in mcgrath I got dumped on all day.. wasn't hunting just getting ready for deer season. didn't see anything on the beaver damn.. otherwise I would give you directions and let you shoot whatever.

i went out this morning, with the overcast and it was pretty slow after the intial first light birds. i did limit this morning though. 2 buffleheads(1 mountable very good looking) 1 drake wood duck 1 ringneck and 2 drake mallards

We went out Sunday morning set out a 320 foot hook, and a mallard spread off to the west, got on the lake, the wind was perfect, the fog was there, but was a few degrees to warm, almost 58 at 4 am. Then about 40 minutes before shooting time, the wind completely died screwing our hook and movement of decoys. Seen a few flocks but someone was sky busting 100 yard shots behind us. Wind picked up out of the south, and everything quit flying. Was still fun being out..

Tip of the day: Don't set up where there is 10000 tweety birds sitting behind ya, hard to hear the wings and quacks.

truth to that, i had ducks come threw those flocks of blackbirds and catch me off guard, black birds need to go away already haha
