I'm thinking about entering the tournament this year as I heard from several people that last year was great. I was just wondering if any of you planned on going or have gone to previous years tournaments.
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day.  Teach him how to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

It's a blast, I encourage everyone to join in the fun there.

I'm running the weigh in tent this year. If anyone is interested in working this great event, please let me know. We also need folks to drill the holes the night before.

Sounds like a good time and it looks like I will be buying at least 1 hole to join the fun. Also I was looking on the website and it says officials will be looking thru coolers, does that mean you can't bring any beer/booze?

I'll find out for sure at the meeting on Sunday. They usually let you bring in your own beverage but prefer you buy from them as the VFW makes a lot off that. The main reason for checking coolers is to make sure you aren't bringing in any live fish you caught earlier.

You can bring whatever food or beverage you want, but NO GLASS CONTAINERS!  Any glass containers get confiscated by event workers when they go around and search everyones bags and coolers.  Last year we were grilling steaks on the ice waiting for the tourney to begin.  It's a blast.  We basically just had a big party with everyone around us.

Bandbll is right, no glass otherwise bring in what you want. We do ask that you buy beer there if you can as all proceeds go to the VFW. This year beer is only going to be $1 a can. So you can get a 12 pack for $12, hardly pays to drag beer across the lake for that.

For those interested in a free ticket to fish, please let me know. We need folks to drill holes. First 60 folks who volunteer and show up will get a ticket to fish. If you already have a ticket, you can still do the drilling and get a second ticket to fish a second hole.

Great deal and all this is for a great cause.

For those interested in working with me, I'm running the weigh-in booth and need some help. I'm looking for 8-10 folks to help me weigh fish, enter them in the computer, let the fish go, etc. Please let me know if you are available and willing to help out.

All proceeds to go the Forest Lake VFW. This helps veterans and some money gets donated out from there to the Make A Wish Foundation and a few other charities. All money goes to charity.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Are underwater cameras allowed?
    Yes.

2. Can I use a sonar, such as a Marcum or Vexilar?
    Yes.

3. Can you use a shelter?
No shelters or windbreaks of any kind can be used.  You must be in view from all sides during the contest.

4. What time does the contest end?
At 3:00pm a canon will go off ending the contest. You must be in line by 3:00pm to register a fish. Remember- Fish must be brought to the weigh-in tent immediately when caught and alive. Dead or frozen fish will be ineligible. There will be tournament bags available to help keep your fish alive at the weigh-in area and through out the contest area.

5. Can I use Reel Weeds?
Maybe.  Holes are all pre-drilled and augers are not allowed.  Holes are spaced 15 feet apart.  If you can figure out a way to use them in the hole your fishing in, then yes, you can use weeds.

7. Is there stuff to do before the contest?
Yes. Starting at 9am you can roam around and survey the area, visit our sponsors booths, see product demonstrations, grab a bite to eat or drink.

8. Do you have bait on the ice?
No. You must bring your own bait. If you stop at Mike's Bait on 8 and purchase bait on the day of the contest, your name will be entered for a chance to win 1 of 5 $100 cash prizes.

9. Can I fish 2 holes?
Yes. You need to purchase a ticket for each hole. 1 line per hole, 2 holes max. Both tickets must be in view.

10. Is there going to be beer for sale?
Yes. We ask that you purchase your beer at the event. The Forest Lake VFW will be selling beer at the event for a reasonable price and the money made will help vets in need.  Plus you won't even have to leave your hole! There will be people pulling beer sleds around.

11. Can I bring my own beer, food or pop?
Yes.  We ask that you patronize our vendors.  This is a huge fundraiser for groups such as the Forest Lake VFW and the Lions, so we ask that you try and patronize these organizations.

13. Can I buy my Fishapalooza event tickets the day of the event?
Yes. Tickets will be available on the ice, but be sure to get there early.  The lines can be quite long. Buy your tickets online or at one of the local retailers early and avoid the lines at the lake.

14. I got my ticket ahead of time online. When I get to the lake on the day of the event, do I need to check in?
Yes. Everyone needs to stop at the check-in station to receive a participant tag and go through security. Check-in will be located on the west side of the contest area.

15.  Where are "Will Call" tickets?
The Will Call is located next to the ticket sales tent on the west side of the contest area.

16. Are ticket available the day of the contest?
Yes.  Tickets can be purchase at Mike's Bait on 8, Forest Lake Gander Mountain, Forest Lake VFW, Frankie's Bait and Friar Tucks on and before the day of the contest. Tickets will also be available on the ice at the ticket sales tent on the west side of the contest area.

17. Can I use a tip-up?
      Yes

18. Where can I park?
We have a parking area 1/4 mile west of Hwy 61 on Hwy 97 just south of Forest Lake. There is also parking at the Forest Lake Gander Mountain.

There will be no parking on the ice by Sheriff's order.
