Economy affecting fishing

I work in construction and am off every winter for ice fishing, which is great. The down side is not having as much money and with the price of gas, and groceries, and the wife losing her income, this year has really hit me hard. The wife and I usually fish 3 to 4 times a week, but I havn't been able to go once this year and its killing me. Well, enough wining, just wish I could get out and meet some of you guys on the ice.

Has the economy affected any one elses fishing?

     Hang in there Katfish.  This winter has been tough on fishing.  First the big snow before good ice.  The rain saved the day for the metro area but many the northern lakes are still unsafe.  I'm old so I can say I missed quite a few seasons in my life.  Not because of the local economy but personal economy.  You just do what you have too.  I assure you winter will show up next year.  Good luck-you have not missed too much so far.

Agreed. The econ is hurting some but you haven't missed much with the fishing.

I'm with you. Gas is killing my fishing. Being laid off sucks!! It's good though that word is the economy is up, even though unemployment is still almost 10% and gas is over $3 a gallon and probably going to go over $4 this summer. 

Not sure where you live katfishkeith, I'm in St. Paul. Maybe we can get together and split some gas.

there used to be an old dnr stock pond right off 52 in inver grove just pass 494 on the east side..  and south of the mendota bridge if you cut down towards the minnesota river on 13 (I think) their used to be another dnr stock pond there.. nice panfish. some closer options for ya.


 I'm still recovering from my layoff 2 years ago...

Been laid off 3 winters in a row and I feel your pain. Normally had money saved up to make it through winter but now trying to fund a wedding with the small side job income so there will be barely any fishing.   Things will shape up here in the next couple years hopefully. As for the gas increase, its mind boggling.

Hey, thanks for the replies, guys.
Looking forward to gettin together for some fishin and meetin some of you guys.
My economics will start lookin up towards March. I would love to invite you guys for a get together on the Horseshoe chain. If you havn't caught a cat through the ice, your missin one heck of a fight.
Thanks to a good bunch of sportsmen on here for great posts and pics, it helps with the cabin fever!
