Winners of Big Jig Fishing Contest listed

Here are the top five places in the Big Jig Fishing Contest, held Sunday on Pike Lake north of Duluth. The event is sponsored by the University of Minnesota Duluth Athletic Department. About 1,300 people took part in the event, according to the athletic department. UMD athletic director Bob Nielson estimates the contest raised about $50,000 for the department.

Results:

1.    Bryan Johnson, 2.385-pound walleye; wins 2011 Ford Focus Sedan S from
North Star Ford & UMD Athletics
2.   Steve Dinda, 2.195-pound sucker; three-day houseboat trip from Voyagaire Houseboats
3.   Matt VanReese, Cloquet, 1.980-pound sucker; Honda BF20 four-stroke outboard motor from RJ Sport & Cycle
4.  Wes Olson, Duluth, 0.850-pound walleye; Strikemaster Electra Lazer 12,000 DP ice auger from Fisherman’s Corner
5. Mark Halverson, Lake Nebagamon, 0.790-pound crappie; three night stay at High Banks Resort Lake on Lake Winnibigoshish

   Wow.  That's two posts in a row from very different areas with very poor results concidering how many people are fishing.  We had a get together at Clearwater and fished pretty hard with poor results also.  Late ice this season is tough.  I think the heavy snow killed the sunlight and effected the season.  The panfish in the cities where we got the early rain has been pretty good.  Maybe with this warm up we will see some increased activity.  :bow:  Thanks for the report Lee.
