Just when it looked like we had a chance for an extended late ice season Mother Nature said -NOT!!  This will speed up the ice deterioration  in the metro quite rapidly.  I hope north of Mille Lacs they get snow instead of rain.  I am not ready for open water just yet.

I think we'll be okay through the weekend personally.  Colder temps with no sun should slow down the melt.  The first weekend in April might be tricky though.

My concern is the snow that is supposedly coming. We've got all this water from the rain sitting on top of the ice and then if we get 5-8 inches of snow on top of that we'll have a mess out there. It won't get cold enough to refreeze that. Fortunately the rain has stopped for now and this 30+mph wind that is howling across the lake is drying up some of the moisture. Be nice if it could get rid of all the water before it starts to snow.

This newest batch of rain and slush and snow won't interfere with the weekend ice plans.  We're heading out to Pelican for this Sunday the 27th.
