Buzz Baits?

          I am mostly a walleye guy.  I  recently purchased a buzz bait mold and was wondering what you bass guys think of them.  Do you find that there are times you would prefer to use them as opposed to spinner baits?  I know they are designed for reaction strikes.  Do you catch pike on them too?  I'm trying to decide whether to invest the time in making up a bunch.

The buzz is my favorite bait. It catches pike as well as bass. I like to use the mini ones on calm days and the bigger ones when there is some wind.

I grew up Bass fishing. I used to love using buzz baits very early in the morning, just as the sun was about to come up and the lake was dead calm. Work them slow to medium through a patch of lilly pads. I've had a lot of fun with them!

Yes you will catch pike with them. I've also caught muskies with them. Heck, i've caught crappies and sunfish on them as well. In a lake full of small northerns you will catch just as many as you will bass.

A buzz bait rides on the surface of the water and is especially addicting because you see the fish strike or miss before you feel it. Sometimes that fin comes up behind it or you see the wake in the water coming. Sometimes the water erupts or explodes and sometimes it just disappears silently when a fish takes it. Buzz baits are definately fun.

   Well, it looks like it will be a worthwhile project.  Do you guys have color preferences.  Bright vs. dark.  I am thinking about going solid colors.  Probably will start with black head black skirt and white head white skirt.  I find chartreuse a good color for just about everything so I will make a few of those as well.   I may need some help testing these out.  Let me know if you find any weakness in the ones currently available.  I want them to be A1 quality.

Only spinner bait/buzz bait I have ever used and ever needed to use was a white one. When I was young I did have a black one that I slayed the nortehrns on. It was my all-time favorite to use. I remember I used to tip it with a 5 or 6 inch plastic worm. The blades were black faded into oprange with little speckles on it. But then again that was a spinner bait and not a buzz bait. Other than that white is all I would buy.

Replaceable skirts are good. Unless you know the lake the best color is by experiment. I was with a guy on a lake he knew well but never had I. He said I should use black. I did not believe it because my old trusty white would outfish him anywhere. WRONG! after he had 6 fish in seven casts to my 0 fish in 12 casts I changed to black and the score was even after that. Skirts are cheap I bet if you sold them with one attached and a couple spares bagged to it you could do well.

Yes on the spinner bait/buzz bait, I have about 50 of them, I use them all the time for bass and pike When walleye are slow it nice to buzz some bait, on the hotter days,

Nothing beats a ripple slapping buzz bait to wake up the fish on a dead calm water.

im with MNO white has always seemed to work best black is a great color if your fishing at night with a bright moon pitch them close to docks and chances are you will pull a lunker out from under it i myself believe the blade or prop is the most important part of the buzz bait like stated b4 big prop makes more sound but a smaller prop is more realistic in my eyes as for problems with buzz baits and spinners i think i speak for a lot of others when i say the twisted top are better for spinners and the R bend is best for buzz baits i also tie all my lures on i don't like using clips or leaders JMO i trust the line i use and have no reason to use leaders or clips let us know if you make some and need them tested i will test any lures you want and give you the feedback thanks
