DNR to renovate Agate Bay public water access in Two Harbors – facility to close for construction this summer
(Released April 7, 2011)

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the city of Two Harbors are undertaking a complete renovation of the Lake Superior public water access on the east side of Agate Bay in Two Harbors.

Renovation will require complete closure of the facility, including the parking lots and pedestrian walking trails, from May 16 through October. Pedestrian access to the breakwater will reopen June 10.

The project includes construction of a new crib dock for wind protection, improved deep-water boat launching ramps, a dedicated kayak ramp with dock, pedestrian walkways and new parking lots.

The renovated facility will also include features for managing storm water runoff, while improving access to Lake Superior for all users.

While under construction, boaters can access Lake Superior at the following launch sites:

Two Harbors - Burlington Bay, temporary ramp, boats up to 20 feet, east side of town
Knife River Marina - larger boats, 7 miles west of Two Harbors
Twin Points Small Craft Harbor - boats up to 20 feet, 15 miles east of town
McQuade Small Craft Harbor - larger boats, 16 miles west of Two Harbors
Silver Bay Marina - larger boats, 25 miles east of Two Harbors.
