Copper's Story

wo youngest found a distressed baby bunny a couple weeks ago and tried to nurse it back to health.
it didn't make it.
they take it to heart every time, bless their hearts.
my daughter balls her eyes out when they don't make it.
most of the time when they find a baby bird, or baby duck or any orphaned animal, they dont have a very good chance because of their young age, condition and given the fact that we are not mother ducks, bunnies, or robbins.
that does not keep them from trying EVERY time.
this little rabbit never stood a chance.
it had been accosted by our overly protected chesapeake.
it was covered with saliva and had two (that we could tell) broken legs.
kate knew enough to get it dry imediately and make it warm.
but with night time coming on, knowing it wouldnt last a few minutes more, we would have to go to bed soon.
the little bugger hung on, so we made a nest box for it and kept it under the lamp for warmth.
I knew it wouldnt make the night, so we said a prayer and wished it luck, knowing it was a comfortable as we could make it for the night.

morning rolled around and the darned thing had wiggled over to another location in the box.
when kate gently picked it up, it wiggled like crazy!
the legs were still in tough shape, but it looked like there might actually be hope for it.

as the day wore on, it's condition worsened and as it was even more than before, obvious that it was slipping away, my daughter kate wrote this story that I'd like to share with you all.

"Copper's Story"

How we found him is my dog Ginger attacked him.
He was lucky to make it the first night.
He was even more lucky to die in peace.
Copper was and is one of the best rabbits you could wish for.
when he dies, I will be proud to tell you his story, how he cried for help...
so if you hear his story, please tell others about the baby bunny named Copper.
to my best bunny Copper...when he goes, please let him go in peace.
we almost had him 24 hours.
we got him may 27th / 07 he died may 28th / 07

another wow!  i did a lot of attempted animal rescues
but they never end up good...  at least the bunny died
in a safe and warm place..
