In my opinion yes.  Most commercial harnesses use an octopus or very round hook.  I prefer to make my own.  Because I ended up running out this year.  I had to use a couple of commercially made spinner rigs.  What I found was the kahle hooks I use had a much higher hooking percentage.  Now to be  fair this was only my experience so don't take it as scientific.  :reporter; Only take my opinion that a kahle hook in my hands had about a 95-97% hooking percentage.  Pretty much means if I had a bite I caught the fish.  When I used the commercial harness with the rounder hook I would estimate the hooking percentage dropped by 10-15%. :bonk:  If you get a chance try this out.  Hook style in my opinion can make a big difference in hooking percentages.  Why exactly I couldn't say. :doah:  I have my theories though.   Then again so does our former Governor of the great state of Minnesota-Jessie the Body Ventura.  ;) ;)

These were light biting fish.  I actually saw less deep hooked fish with the kahles because I could set the hook quicker. :coffee:

Ive never seen a harness with any other hook - so I guess it never crossed my mind, so I never thought about it.

That is an interesting concept though.  I do like the Kahle hooks on most occasions - it seems like they are able to keep the fish on with their angled design.   :fishing2:

I had not ever thought about it before either.  We were catching so many walleye I actually wore out a couple plus I gave some away.  When I ran out and used the other hook style I did nothing different except miss more bites.  When I went back to the kahles (size 12) My percentage went back up to almost no misses.  I will continue the experiment next year but I definatley will always have the kahle harnesses with me.  When you are getting a lot of fish it doesn't matter if you miss a few.  When you are on a bad bite those hooking percentages really make a difference in your day.
