We had a good hunting opener at the Putz shack this past weekend. not done, just taking a break. the first morning I sat near andrew on the south side of the property to be sure he'd be ok. I think it's going to be the other way around before long.
we had fair success, and we will keep plugging away racking up the score. it's what we do.
good to see every body at camp, except mogey was a healthy scratch...(new kid and short funding). what ever.

other than that, the big news was I asked scroungie what he wanted for his birthday ( 13 yrs on Saturday) and he said I want a big buck. sounded like a good wish to me.
well I moved for the afternoon hunt and Andrew took the same spot as his morning sit. my brother Dean was to the north of me and I heard him shot. A quick text confirmed that it was Dean, and he was tracking. I let Andrew know Dean was tracking a deer he shot. he asked if we should get down to go help. I told him Dean would be fine and if he needed help he would get ahold of me. I told Andrew to sit tight and watch in case Deans deer came that way he'd have to finnish it off.
about a half hour later I heard a shot that sounded like a deffinate KA-THUMP! I texted to ask if it was bubba...about a minute later he texted me back to say, "dad just shot at a 6-7 pointer need help"
cool! I told him to mark the exact spot where the deer was when he shot and stay in his stand.
when I got there he was still shaking.he told me the buck came in and he thought the deer had seen him. he almost got a shot off broadside when a doe came into view and the buck said"hey...how's it going" they headed off together and scroungei knew if he didn't act quick they'd both be outa sight.
he let out a sound with his mouth like a doe bleat and the buck spun around and took a few steps towards him giving him a heads on, slightly quartering shot, which he wasted no time taking.
we went through the drill with me being the deer and him pointing me to where the deer had stood. I looked down and found a clump of hair. we searched and found no blood, so we started zig zagging until I spotted the brown and snow white belly.
we found his buck. as we got closer the horns grew. he pulled the head out of the brush , to find a real nice eight point rack!
happy birthday buddy. sure proud of you!

take a kid hunting and fishing!!

Handle every stressful situation like a dog.  If
you can't eat it or hump it.

Piss on it and walk away
