I believe it's called Dehmer's?       FireRanger would know for sure; he's dropped off deer there and had very good results.

Google "Kentucky Afield Store", look for the Kentucky afield "deer processing video" (first item at store).  It is a very good video very easy to do.

Here is a video series that I found that explains processing whitetail deer pretty well.

My brother in law and I just finished cutting up the doe I got with the muzzle loader.  Not a pro job but not too bad for a couple amatures.   We both still have all ten fingers. :rotflmao:

This year, my two boys and I have cut up the couple deer that we have harvested.  I am sure we can improve, but we got the job done.  I bought a small meat grinder at Scheels, it worked great to grind up the trimmings into burger.

the spot in SD where I get my beef from his price list for deer is a third cheeper than any place I've seen in.... so next year when I pick up my beef I'm dropping off my venison.. when I head back for pheasants I'll pick it up.  at 2$ a pound for sticks and sausage plus it's not that far out of the way.

it just bumms me out to shoot a deer then spend 150 having someone make sausage.. and for me to pick up the stuff and experiment in making it myself that just seems like it'll take forever and cost a ton for something I may or may not be able to do.

I cut my own deer up, it take about 4 hours with the hide still on. I have done my own for a long time now as I do not like taking it in as I do not know how or what they do with my deer meat. In some cases I have herd you do not get your deer meat back or that you are short deer meat when you get it back. I do take the meat in to have grin up for HB as I know how much I bring in like my last two was 110LB with the tot and I pick it up last night and I had 121Lb with the pork add.

It depends on when the deer, and how many, are taken.  Usually during bow and muzzy season we would only have one deer to deal with.  I usually do the processing on those.  During the gun season, we often have more the I care to deal with so we bring them to the local meat processing place. It makes it easy to divide the cost and meat and best of all, I can hunt rather than messing with deer processing.

I started proccessing my own a couple of years ago. It does take some time to do but it definitely saves money and like others have said.. you know for sure what your getting. I figure the equipment was paid for in the first year. And this year I processed an elk which I dont even want to know what a butcher would charge. Plus its fun to experiement with new recipies and tailor the mix to your taste. I also like that if I run out of deer sticks / summer sausage / jerky... I can just make more!

I have been processing my own deer for 20 years. It helps that we also process the beef that the neighbor uses to pay the rent.
The hunting crew used to take their deer to the butcher shop and have it done till CWD and the price increase. Now they try to get as much as possible done before they go home. We can do 2 deer in about 4 hours from skinning to in the freezer with 4 people working on it.
I hit one last Dec. and did not want to mess with it so I took it to the butcher. They had just cleaned up for the season-they thought- and for $75 I got chops steaks and scraps cut wrapped and would have been frozen if I had waited a day to pick it up. I did not think that was too bad.
