Had some skim ice in the sheltered areas in and around some of the cattails this morning on Lake Osakis. It was cold and fairly calm this morning which is a little unusual lately with all the wind we been having here. About 9:30 the wind started to pick up and by 10 or 11 all the ice was gone. Still a good sign. That shows me that the water temperature is down to the point where the water is ready to freeze given the opportunity. A couple of cold, calm days and some of the bays and smaller lakes should freeze over.

THINK  :cold:

Had 1/8th inch thick ice that ran about 100 yards out from shore this morning. I was really pumped at first and than reality set in. We are projected to get up to 6 inches of snow here Saturday. Several inches of snow on top of that thin coating of ice could really make a mess of the early ice season. So now I am hoping it all melts away before the snow comes. Hoping for the ice to melt this time of years is something I never thought I would do but it's for the best. After it snows Saturday it can turn cold and make all the ice it wants. Hopefully we get a foot of good clear ice before it snows again.
