With the lake trout season approaching, ice on Burntside and Snowbank Lakes is abut 10-12 inches thick in most places. 
There are some areas where it is thinner, so driving a vehicle is not advised and ATV's or snowmobiles should be the method of travel.
It looks like colder weather will be coming in by the opener (Jan 14th) which should make ice conditions a lot better by Feb 1st.
Again, do not take a full size truck out before then.
