The lure of big pre spawn Walleyes on the rainy river excited me and I hooked the Warrior up and headed to the Rainy River Sat with Scott. Scott Qualls had never fished the river and was pumped to get the boat in. We stocked up with live bait plastics more jigs Spot tailed shinners and rainbows. The minnows worked the best on jigs size 3/8oz or 1/4oz but we did see alot of guys fishing Plastic tubes casting shore lines. Didnt seem to matter the pre spawn walleyes Sat were stacked in the river in all the areas I fished. The males are still Milking and all the females still had eggs. They should spawn soon. The second last day before the season closed the river wasn't that crowded. I chose to fish a spot that looked fishy with only one other boat near us. Looking down the river you could see the community spots loaded with boats. I hoped to get Scott on his P/B Walleye which needed to be over 27.5 " He didnt get it his biggest was 25.5" but he did miss fish hooked that came off that I think would of done it, those lost fish are always the next record. The limit is two fish each in the river and Scott wanted two to eat under the 19.5" slot. We put our four fish in the livewell in about a half hour then worked for the big Girls. We caught lots of dandy fish a fun day Scott would hook a fish and get it in and say its another 17" fish nice problem. I didnt keep track how many we caught and released a close guess 50 or more just like Fishing Canada. I didnt anchor just slow trolled the shore for miles using my HDS 8 and structure scan fishing in about 12ft to 8ft and we had doubles on and didnt go longer the ten minutes between bites or after you released a fish and baited up throw it out bang fish on. If you want to get a kid hooked on Walleye fishing go to the Rainy river I know I was again.
