I had a tough day too.  That is to be expected on the Lake of No Fish.  Even the crappies are hard to come by.  Caught a couple of small pike and perch.  The highlight of the day was a 18.5" smallie that I caught on the first drop of my jig this morning leading me to believe for an instant that some  :moon: was going to get kicked on the Lake of No Fish today.  As usual, it was mine. :bonk: :bonk:

only caught 1 small walleye 14 inches. that was about 25 minutes into the season. then we couldnt keep the dang bullheads off our lines. called it quits at 3am. fished last night with only 2 bites and no fish. weather wise it was great, was also great to be back out on the water. but fishing was really slow

Didnt even try for walleyes, the lake we were on wasnt really set up well to fish them.
We fished pike most of the day, got some follows from some muskies too, but nothing wanted to hit.  Caught a couple nice largemouths, and alot of sunfish (kept a few for dinner).
All in all it was a pretty good opener, the weather was perfect.

Leech opener on Sat three under fish and slots 26" two 25.5" 24.5" and some smaller slots. Nice fat fish. Started by Goose Island then left too many people for me. Headed north for these fish.

Sun was a better day north again 9 under fish for a fry and some dandy slots biggest was 28" a friend caught fishing with me. Before the 28" he had a 27" back to back dandys. Lots of nice slot fish Sun. Water was cold 54

Drifting worked the best green jig and Spot Tail wind was Big Nasty Sun Night got back to Walker park at six but I was dry. I was happy with the opener nice fish should get better. One spot I fished I was the only boat three drifts three fish I liked that. I traveled 14 miles one way for these fish away from the crowds. Greg with the net with his 28" eye

Tried to fish out of a canoe for some trout in multiple lakes, no success.  Saw a few investigating lures/bait, but no takers.  We fished about 12-14 hours on a variety of lakes, tried countless ways of fishing.

On a positive note, we found a nice grouping of sunnies with the feedbag on that were more than willing to cooperate.  Lots of fun on a flyrod! :fishing2: Going to give the walters a try next weekend.

Being we caught a few crappie the week before, we thought we would kill them on the fishing operner.  Water seemed right (60-63 degrees) but they just were no where to be found.  We fished from 3 to 15 feet in morning, noon and evening but couldn't find the crappie.  Northerns were another story.  We could catch them at will.  We probable caught 50 in three days.  Several in the 30+ range.
