It’s a winter wonderland out there today!

The snow is falling, and some ice covered trees are illuminated by the November sun.  Few anglers made their way out onto the water this weekend with some freezing rain, thin ice on back bays and the second weekend of deer hunting.

The Ice Report! Ice is being reported around the area in bays, small river inlets, and even on spots of the Rainy River itself. Zippel Bay was frozen over last weekend, thawed, and has now frozen over again.  Morris Point bay and Bobstick Creek is also frozen over, with at least one person using his boat to break ice and get out fishing.  The River is freezing on the edges in the weed beds and around the docks.  Small river inlets like Winter Road River have both a layer of ice and snow on them this morning.  Four Mile Bay is still wide open, to the liking of waterfowl hunters, but ice is expected soon.  Some resorts are anticipating being able to get out spearing northerns in the bays by the end of the month, assuming the cold weather holds.

Resorts are in full gear getting ice fishing gear tuned up and ready.  Ice rigs, bombardiers, fish houses, augers, etc are ready to go!  Follow the action, find lodging, share your fish photos, see current videos and reports at www.lakeofthewoodsMN.com.
