:newhere: Hey guys, i posted the following post in the New Members Intro section but im guessing that doesnt get much exposure so decided to copy and paste it in this General Discussion forum.

"Hello everyone.

I currently live in Lansing, Michigan, however my wife just accepted a probation officer job in Chaska, MN. We will be moving in about a month.

I am 26 years old and am a Combat Vet medically retired from the Marine Corps. I put 6 years in. I have two daughtors with another on the way. I am an avid hunter and fisherman.

I am excited to see what all MN has to offer outdoors wise. I have heard its quite a lot like Michigan. Can anyone give me some info on Chaska as far as climate, hunting and fishing opportunities? Thanks guys. I'm looking forward to talking with you guys."

Hi,
Fishing opportunities are endless.  After all we are the "10,000 lakes" state. We also have untold miles of rivers and streams. There are few areas in that state that would require a long drive to go fishing. You will not have an issue finding places to fish.  Although there are smaller tracts of public land in in the southern part of the state, most land available for public hunting is in the northern 1/3 of the state.  Some people here may have a lot more specifics on local (Twin Cities) public hunting land than I do so maybe they can chime in here.
***I started out with nothing, and I still have most of it.***

::welcome:: As others have said the Deer hunting can be had mostly in the northern 3rd of the state. Lots of state land up there and the deer get less pressure in my opinion. There are tons of miles that don't ever see the footprints of people due to the fact that the average hunter doesn't journey more then a mile off any given road or trail. Southern parts of  the state have some hunting oppurtunities however far fewer due to the ownership of land be it farm country or what have you. The ice fishing season will be setting in soon and if you'd like I'm sure some of the guys could hook you up as to where to go down in that area or if your not too shy about driving...I could let you in on a few spots of my own.. ;) Good Luck! Thank You for your service and let us know any other questions you might have.
Going South......in a manner of speaking!

well that area is my expertise(sp)? i live in chanhassen. use to live in chaska. just a 3 mile difference. some of the public land can be good for pheasants but it gets hit early and often, so you may have to do some driving. theres 3 public hunting areas within 10 miles that i can think of off the top of my head, one from what i hear this year is a excellent duck hunting spot this year. you can deer hunt all 3 areas with archery. i know one you can slug hunt, not sure about the other 2. fishing can be great, you can PM me the species your looking for and ill give ya a few spots to start off. i wont post the names because i like to keep them on the down low.
