MORNING UPDATE: Minnesota DNR seeks to put moose on endangered species list.


Minnesota’s beleaguered moose would be one of 67 animals added to the state’s official endangered-species list under a proposal announced Monday by the Department of Natural Resources.

i wonder if this had to do anything with the wolf hunt? i mean other than there just being to many anyways.

And too many wolves, in our area anyways. I had a farmer in the office the other day and he was working a field next to a low willow thicket, he could see the top of a moose back, cow, and she was struggling, she went down and when she stood back up she had a timber on her back, crazy! She went down after that and she didn't get back up.

I can understand and agree to a certain extent that wolves are having a larger impact on the population just because of the simple fact that the population is in decline already. Therefore the impact of the wolf being even larger then usual. Wolves and Moose coexisted for way too long to be able to blame the downturn in moose population on them more then any other biological/environemental factor.

Right, I don't think they're the only reason but with the increase in the deer population and them giving the moose the brainworm through their feces and the increase in our wolf population, it's all part of the equation. Sure is sad, we used to see at least one nice bull a year during rifle season.
