With the sun gone down, and stars shining bright
The chickens were nestled in the coop for the night

Along came a creature, his hunger in full blossom
I would like to introduce you all to Ned the Possum!

He felt entitled to a chicken dinner, two he killed without sorrow,
He planned to eat the 2nd one, when he returned upon the morrow!

I lay out a trap to capture my new friend
Baited with thigh of chicken he had brought to his end.

I asked him this morning, "Was the chicken or your life worth more?"
His look told told me: "Good sir, the chicken, it was to die for!"

Possum possum in that cage

Your face shows anger and mighty rage

You've killed those chickens not one but two

And now your trapped what will you do?

Your fate is now in the trappers hands

So we the viewers await what stands

Now will you live or shall you die

Ours is not to reason why

But, the trapper knows if you read his eyes
