Lake trout opener on lakes outside of the BWCA begins Saturday.
Burntside Lake has 11-13 inches of ice in most areas.  I assume that Snowbank Lake will have about the same.
I would not drive a full size vehicle out on the opener with the warm spell of 30+ degree weather we have coming the next 3-4 days.  However, the second weekend should have thick, solid, ice with a cold front coming in a week from today and lows predicted to be from -15 to -30 degrees.
Not much snow on the lakes, and zero slush yet, so travel with ATV's or snowmobiles should be easy.

PS-Make that lows throughout the 2nd weekend, and into the third week of Trout season to
-40 degrees which will make very thick ice!
