I went out yesterday to see if it was dry enough to drive in my land.  (I took the 4 wheeler just in case).  Things looked pretty good.  While eating lunch on our picnic table, a hen walked by about 60 yards from me.

When I got home, I bought a license for the F season which started today (May 12).  Being it gets light so early, I left home at 4:00 AM.  I was setup and in the blind by 5:25. Gobbling started soon after that.  About 6 AM, I saw three hens making their way up the field.  When they were about 30 yards out, I looked the opposite way and saw two hens about 30 yards away.  None of these 5 hens wanted anything to do with my two decoys.  The three walked into the woods behind me and the other two headed towards my camper and pickup.  They walked within feet of the pickup and then went behind my camper.  I could hear a gobbler near where they went.  A short time later, I saw three turkeys coming toward me from the camper.  I assume it was the two hens and the tom that was gobbling over there.  When they saw my decoy, they came running.  I had just enough time to get the gun up wait for a clear shot, and boom, dead turkey.  Nice tom, 24 lbs, 9 inch beard and 1 inch spurs.

Hunting is not life and death. It is more important than that.

Big bird!  Way to go. Was your grandson in the blind with you?
