    • Fishing & Hunting South Dakota's Lake Oahe and Lake Sharpe
I guided the Andrew Corsentino group from around the Walsenburg Co area for 1 day on Oahe 1 day at West Bend and 1 day in the river in Pierre getting them limits of walleye at all three place's. A super bunch of guys that I hope to take fishing again. Day one we fished Oahe keeping 32 walleye and a couple of smallmouth and throwing back probably that many more. The numbers were there but we had mostly smaller walleye so we spent the next day at West Bend on Sharpe keeping an avg. size 17 inch walleye limit. We decided to spend the next day fishing Sharpe out of Pierre and put together another 16 fish limit for them with even a little better avg size catching maybe a half dozen fish in the 18 to 19 inch range in the 16 fish bunch. We caught all the fish on both Oahe and Sharpe using either bottom/bouncer crawlers or gulp. We fished Oahe mostly around 17 to 25 fow and at the Bend around 20 to 25 fow. In Pierre on Sharpe we stayed in 5 to 10 fow. The bite is excellent in all three places however getting the 15 to 19 inch fish seems easier at the bend or on the river in Pierre. That being said there is still a better chance to get the 20 inch plus fish on Oahe and probably more numbers of smaller fish so it is kind of take your pick as to what avg size walleye you want to end up taking home. The nice thing about fishing the Pierre area is that you have the choice to fish either fishery and that is why I guide here. The bite is very good all up and down Oahe and Sharpe and most ways of fishing are working from plug pulling, jig fishing and bouncer /lindy rig fishing. You can catch the fish on Leeches/minnows/crawlers or gulp type products. Fly spray (I use Horse stable spray) is a real good thing to put in your boat along with sunscreen and a lot of cold water. It did cool down some this week.
