Got to westwinds at about 12:30 sat. Went and met Steve from bear paw to bring us out to the house we rented. Before he even left my little cousin dropped a lure down and bam. 1 walleye in the bucket. Not even 2 minutes later a nice perch was caught. After we got situated I went out and set up the portable. Caught a 16" walleye right away. Got a few bites but didn't get them to the hole. Then caught a nice 18" walleye and sent her back down. Then a 14" walleye. Figuring the way we started we wouldn't have a problem getting a limit of 15"-16.5" walleyes so back down it went. Big mistake. I think we had 8 walleyes by the end of sat night. They all just shut down on us. Maybe marked 3-4 fish between 3pm til about 10pm. My uncle did manage to miss the only crappie of the weekend though sat night (broke his line at the bottom of the hole). Got up at about 5:30 sun morning and didn't catch anything for a few hours. It took us til noon to finish off our 6 person limits for walleyes. We did catch a few nice walleyes between 17-19". Sucked having to throw them back. Also caught quite a bit of 11-12 inch eyes (all released). Also caught 2 28" northerns. Hopefully can make it back up at least 1 more time this year. Also a big thanks to bear paw for the house and great service!

Hey Tom,

Did you move around or stay in one place.  The reason I ask is it seems that if you move around the first thing you drop down the hole the aggressive walleye just pound it.  I've started by dropping a gold swedish pimple down the hole first.  It seems to clear out the pesky agressive walleye, and then I change up to something less agressive like an eye dropper from Northland, or a frostie from Lindy.  Thoes two lures seem to bring in the less agressive fish.  If I see there are fish down the hole and not hitting, I'll drop down just a plain hook and a smaller minnow, that'll clear that one Red Lake perch thats down their.

Greg, one thing to add. with the pesky aggressive walleyes, I have found that often the aggressive crappies will rise higher than the walleyes.
if you keep your bait from going any lower than 5-6 feet off the bottom, alot of times the ones you see charge up to greet your lure will be the crappies, granted they are in the area.

Didn't move around much.  To windy for me!  Did punch a few holes and walked around for about 20min. but didn't mark any.  I should have gone out further I think since we were on the inside of the crack in about 10 ft of water.

Fished Saturday from 8:30 to 6:00.  We had our limit of crappies by 11:30 and we stayed trying to catch our limit of keeper walleyes.  Ended up with 20 crappies 3 walleyes and 3 perch.  We caught crappies the whole time but the walleyes were hard to come by.  Total caught for the day was 44 crappies 6 walleyes and three perch.  Thanks goes out to Jigglestick for his fishing advice.

now thats what I'm talking about!!
you are the man! and fishinchick, you are the woman!!
you guys rock!
the thing you have told me here that is getting me all excited is that there is a substantial day bite going on. this is huge!
a day bite for crappies on red lake represent a good number of aggressive crappies.
I highly suggest that if you can break away and get to red, do it now. we have no idea how long it will last. we do know that it is happening and if you get up there now, you have a great chance at catching your limit of the biggest crappies you will ever catch!
great pics fishinchick and big dog!

This picture has me pumped for my trip up this weekend!

I am planning on arriving in Waskish around 10 am on Friday, grocery shopping, bait and tackle shopping and than going out through Hillmans.  Will I have any trouble pulling a wheeled house out 6.5 miles to hit these monster slabs?

You shouldn't have any problems at all.  I seen quite a few houses being pulled out while we were up there.  Good luck and stay warm.  It sounds like it is suppose to get cold this weekend.
