Walleye season opens May 10th and pike season remains open all year!  Last year the river, 4 Mile Bay and open water into the lake was excellent with good numbers of walleyes.  Looking like similar scenario this year.

On the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing going strong.  Fish are being caught up and down the river, 4 Mile Bay and in the Lighthouse Gap.  Keep season continues until May 7th, keeping one 45-50" or over 75" per year and the catch and release season continuing from May 8 - 15.  All accesses on the Rainy are open!  Reports of over 10 sturgeon a day per boat. Try anchoring upstream from a deeper hole with 5/0 - 6/0 circle hook baited with a mix of crawlers and frozen shiners.  Right now, typically a 4 - 5 oz no roll weight with a 12 - 18" lead.  Some big fish of over 6' long being caught.  For specifics, go to www.lakeofthewoodsmn.com/river-fishing.
