Come spawning time I nail them off the docks here,Even befoer and after spawn,Its just slower then.46lber is my largest I've taken lots in the 20-25 range. I have seen 1, I thought was larger and thought near 50lbs.

It has been Afew moths since anyone posted in this thread and probably 6 months since I was on the site but I've been getting addicted to the sport the last couple weeks.  Just the other night I shot my personal size best.

Yup,I can tell by the smile your diggin the sport, great fun...Trying to figure out your carp rig,do you hand wrap up the line?Might need to upgrade to the bottle if you really get into the sport, quick retrieve setup and a line break which comes in handy for big fish, stick a 20-30lb fish and you'll get a rope burn in no-time when she makes a run.

Yeah it was a hand wrap.  I jimmy ringed an old spool a co-worker had.  Just yesterday I picked up a muzzyXD spinner set up. The hand wrapping was getting old and frustrating me when I had follow up shots but couldn't get the line in fast enough.

Well I hope the spinning rig works for ya,anything is better than wrapping line by hand these days, the quick retrieve bottle is the crap tho, well proven and comes with 200lb test braid that never gets tangled for some reason.

Keep up the good work helping our lakes,rivers...You'll find that river carp tend to run smaller than lake carp,we shoot giant carp in the north metro lakes right about the time mil foil emerges, they'll be on top most often if the water is flat gettin ready to spawn.

Largest gras carp I've seen shot was when  friend nailed a85lb'er,his pic holding the fish is still hangin on the wall @ bald eagle bait on hwy 61 in white bear lake,54"s long with a 32" girth,we use the stingeree arrow heads for these big fish, they have longer steel barbs rather than the short wire type barbs that can pull out easier when the fish run unless you make a shoulder shot.Nice thing about the stingeree arrow heads is the quick release, spin the arrow counter clockwise and the barbs retract never seperating from the arrow.

Your shootin a nice lookin bow, almost to nice for these fish.

I looked into both the AMS retrievers and Cajun Hybrid but I like the idea of being able to fight a fish and not having to set the bow down.  The Muzzy has thin 200lb braid.

The lake I currently live on is packed full of both large (15-20lb) and smaller (5-10lb).  Just in the last week I have shot 17 fish (lost Afew) and they all range in size.  Also that's just from shore.  I've been too lazy to put the boat in the water but it's definitely a target rich environment.  I am moving on the Mississippi soon and hopefully have as much luck there in backwaters as I do on the lake.

crap that would be fun to stick something half that size.  I have been messing with different tips because I hate losing fish.  I was using a Cajun penetrator but I don't like the fact the barbs are ALWAYS straight until you unscrew the head but they just don't get a solid grab, even with a pass through.  Only nice part is you only have to turn the arrow.  I'm giving the basic carp point that came with the Muzzy set a shot and see if it holds any better and if not I have a Sting-A-Ree ready to go on a stick.

Are there ever any tournaments down there in any of those lakes?
