I had a blow out this last weekend on my trusty wolverines. this pair is about 15 years old so I'm not broken over it.. but they were good boots and we've put a lot of miles on together. so during the week I decided to swing into cabelas before the heading up to the land on Saturday. spent around 169 on some cabela brand "inferno"..  warm as you could ever want.. felt like gene simmons in these things. which wasn't bad.. but the right boot dug into my ankle something fierce. no matter how I adjusted the laces.. take two steps and crunch.. the side of the boot was caving in on the soft spot below the knob on my ankle...
so today I return these boots. the gal at the counter and I compared our old ankle injuries.. and she took em back.. full credit. great.. so back to the boot isle at cabelas .. now here is my question.. when did cabelas/gander decided that they were manufacturers? and nobody wanted anything but their stuff.. I had to walk past 3 rows of boots all labeled cabelas/guide garbage before I found some danners or rocky's (I went to gander and dicks also)... I don't get it? and the way boots vary in sizes I'm just afraid to order a pair on line and have to deal with returning it via mail and maybe getting hosed on the shipping costs.. so I ended up at joe's bait. which was having a 25% sale today. picked up some baffins (never heard of em before)? salesman was knowledgeable and in spite of being busy took the time to make sure it they were what I needed. we'll see how they work this upcoming weekend.

I like the pronghorns.. those are the ones the kid stole from me this year.  these baffins are not much bigger than a pair of sorels. I plan to use them for the cold days deer hunting and ice fishing.

I just noticed the pronghorns are on sale at Fleet Farm too (-$100), although it said "while supply lasts" suggesting to me it might be a teaser ad. That's a great price.

they are garbage boots the branded cabelas/gander.

I may be some what biased, I work for red wing shoes, which also owns irish setter.

IMHO, Irish setter are best.  did you already buy some? if not let me know, and next time you in my neck of woods, i may be able to "hook" you up.

Red Wings are a little pricier, but well worth it. That is all I buy for work boots.

Yeah my Dad swears by Red Wings for his work boots.  I have only heard good things about the Cabela's boots as long as they are made by Meindl.  I currently have a 6 or 7 year old pair of Danner Pronghorns and they are starting to show their age.

Last week I purchased a pair of rockies and returned them tonight.  The left boot was great but the right boot dug into the outside of my right ankle.  I will be looking for a different brand as well.
