            Follow the rules when giving fish as a gift.

 








Q:  If I am on a fishing trip and the fishing is really good, can I bring home an extra limit to give to a friend or family member when I return?







A:  State law allows making a gift of fish, provided that the person taking the fish abides by his or her daily and possession limits, and the gift is accompanied by a receipt stating the name and address of the donor and the recipient, the date of transfer, a description of the gift and the license number under which the fish or game was taken. However, the transfer is not completed until the fish is given to the recipient with the receipt. If it is being given to a person in the same household, the receipt is not required when the gift will be stored at that location, and the transfer is completed only once the fish is stored in the house. This restricts the angler to possessing only his or her legal possession limit of fish and not any extra limits on such a trip.
