Getting the kids started early. Planning on burning some slash that's in a plot this weekend. Also going to mark some boundary's for a 3 acre plot that will be logged this spring. Might top off some mineral sites too. Anyone else started preparing yet?

I'm planning to do a lot of things different this year. I'm going to take 1/2 of my established hay field and split it into sections of various food plots. Thinking of leaving some standing corn, a turnip patch and a alfalfa plot. And in the woods, some logging ideas have been discussed as well.

first.. plant about 6 new apple trees in our "orchard".. and fence them off
clear  away some low brush in the main food plot
transplant some formerly bareroot stock to it's permanent home. these trees are service berry/crabapple and have grown to about chest high.. we plan to spread them out as they were planted in a area mainly to grow.
we have 2 more deer stands we're going to add.. these ones will be in the middle of the land so on those days when it's just a guy or 2 they can cover the heart of the property
burn down the old crapper and put up the new one.

I will be cutting down 30 to 50 trees.  Most will be on the edge of out food plots.  I am trying to force the deer to enter the food plots on one trail in stead of on any of the 10 trails leading to the plot.  The one opening will be within 20 yards of a huge white red oak that holds its leaves into dec.

The logging has been going great, almost half done. Once done, I'll start on the new food plot plan.

Man! I'm getting exhausted just watching all the work your putting in on your project H.D.  Must be a labor of love.

Yup, it is. My youngest daughter hunts this area of the property and I needed a trail. So, I figured that I can have the best of both worlds by making a food plot and the trail at the same time.

I just started my trails cutting stumps to 4 inches or lower if I can! Did you brush cut first and then disk or how did you get it to look so good!

brush cut first.. or the long brush will tangle up in the disk and it won't work very well. that's been my experience..
