2015-16 ice fishin season

now I know the educated weather people cant get much right, but looking at accuweather its looking pretty bleek for consistenet weather to have decent ice by the 2nd weekend of dec.

ElNino!! Remember ?? Last 2 times it was prevalent? Around 98 then 2001.I was installing new windows in the sardine can Dec.of 2001 in a flannel shirt!!

I was hoping to at least be walking out by turkey day but I don't think that's going to happen.

Can never trust the weather reports.  Rain and thunder were forecasted for today.  My son took the day off so we said screw the rain we will hunt in it if we have to.  Guess what, no rain and no thunder.  Just a nice day in the woods.  Go figure.

took a drive sat morning........I did see some ice skimmed over a few small water holes. there was some ice on the creek on becker lake!!!!! its coming!!!!!!!!!

I bought my dad a new auger last night for Christmas.  If he gets to use it or not because of lack of ice I'd be ok with it either way.

sitting here watching it rain when I should be sneeking out of work in an hour to head nort for the first spear trip of the year. bummer!!!!!!!!!!!

        DNR warns of thin ice on lakes

ST. PAUL-- With daytime temperatures still climbing above freezing even in the northern parts of the state, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is reminding outdoor enthusiasts to stay clear of early ice, use extreme caution when recreating on dangerously cold water and wear life jackets..
 



 







Although some locations in the northern and western regions of the state were reporting ice formation at the end of November, the recent fluctuations in weather have led to degraded ice conditions and warnings from public safety officials to stay off the ice until at least 4 inches of new, clear ice is present.

“No fish is worth the risk of going through thin ice,” said DNR conservation officer Lt. Adam Block. “At this point, it is going to take several consecutive days of below-freezing temperatures before enough solid ice has formed to support foot traffic, and even longer before snowmobilers should be on the ice.”


Last winter, five people died after breaking through the ice, including one toddler. No deaths have been reported yet this winter, although several emergency ice rescues have taken place in the last few weeks.

pretty pathetic when on dec 3rd your bait options are a rapala, daredevil or lindy rig instead of a spearing decoy!!!!!!!!!!
