CO Marty Stage (Ely) reports that the lake ice is getting bad. The rivers are open and a lot of open water is visible now on any of the lakes with current. The ice is deteriorating on the edges of the smaller lakes. The geese and swans are back and spring is really here. A very few people are still chasing crappies, but it’s getting to be a dangerous proposition around Ely.  Be careful.

With the conditions we had this winter, our ice really never got that "good", so any warm weather will help it go out pretty quickly this spring.  Ice conditions had deteriorated quite a bit up until the last few days.  However, conditions have really slowed down here and it really looks like winter again.  We had about 6 inches of snow on Tuesday night and we're getting a few more today with nighttime temperatures forecast to be just above 0 this weekend.  Next week looks like spring will finally arrive and we'll get on with making some open water.
