Took a ride on Burntside Lake a few minutes ago to check ice thickness and condition. It was easy traveling with a tracked ATV, and a standard ATV with tires will have no problem as of this afternoon. There appears to be only 2-3 inches of snow on top of the ice in most places, and the slightest indication of slush looked to have been from yesterday. Ice conditions seem to be good, but the ice is soft. I found 15 inches of ice where I drilled, and the Nils 4 1/2 inch auger was binding many times, which would indicate that the warm weather and rain have permeated the ice several days ago. After seeing this, I think that the ice will melt very rapidly when the temps get warmer.
