Ok guys, where are you going on opener?  I love this area and the whole Arrowhead region.  I'm from here and love it.  I'm probably going to Boulder, Island, or Rice lake the week after the the opening weekend.  Just for the day but well worth it.  good luck.

Heading up to Duluth on Thursday to jump in my brothers boat and fish Boulder Lake.  They were there Saturday and had some luck with eye's.  It was slow though.  Even had some snow.  My brother and his buddy each brought home 3 eye's which is their limit.  They live right there and a lot of times release all the fish but they do love to eat walleyes like we all do so at times they bring some home.  Minnows was the bait that worked.  Trolled slowly with a single spinner and a fathead or shiner did the trick.  They did catch around a dozen eye's but they spent the whole day there.  Weather should be good on thursday so the comfort level should be better.  I'll report back with the results.  good luck.

Went up to Duluth to jump in my brothers boat last Thursday.  The lake was calm with little or no wind.  Not a good sign but we didn't care.  We thought we would put our two German brains together and slay them anyway.  Well don't think our German brains met the walleyes brains that day.  Only got two around 17 inches and one little 10 incher that was lightly hooked thankfully.

We were on Boulder Lake near Duluth.  Those eye's are born and raised there.  Since my brother lives there he only keeps two per trip.  Enough for him and his wife.  I was planning on keeping my limit for I didn't have a fillet in the house and haven't had walleye in some time.  But he gave me his so I came home with two and that was great.

Lot's of pike that day but all small.  Been fishing that lake since the 60's and I can't remember ever catching that many pike in one day.  No perch as well.  Two day's earlier my brother did real good with his buddy on walleyes.  Could of kept their limits but only took home two apiece.    We tried bobber and minnow, jigging, trolling and casting plastics and crankbaits.  Best part though is being there always.  Some pics of some of the islands and a pic of my brother holding his eye.  good luck.

Sounds like a great day on the lake.  I was roped into helping the neighbor move his daughter.
