A good friend of mine has suggested that I consider hunting The Alexandria area for deer.  Can anyone suggest one of the public hunting areas, or perhaps some private property I'd have a chance of getting permission to hunt in that area?  This would be for gun season as I will be doing my crossbow hunting down in the Lakeville area.

Lot of good public spots two exits past alex in the brandon area.  We have a cabin up there and hunt around there every year and have deer every year.  Not going to walk you to my spot :deer: but check some spots on the map within 5-10 minutes north of brandon.  And shoot me a heads up before you go out so I know which spots are left!

Does'nt hurt to try on the web,BUT,best solution is get out there and scout the WMA's in that area,I suspect rifle hunting on private land will be tuff unless you know someone like every where else in Mn.

I'd skip WMA's and get a plat book and find tax forfeit land county and state.

GG check out the website for Douglas County Highway Dept. I looked at platbooks on there yesterday, but wasn't really impressed. There should be a number you can call, used to be 320-763-6001, to contact them. I'm sure they can sell you a good platbook for around $30.00. It's well worth it. As far as tax forfeit land I don't think there is any in this area. There are quite a few WMAs and other public lands purchased by local clubs, PF, MDHA, ect. that should be in the platbook and easily marked. These used to be on their county highway maps too and there're like $2.00. Give them a call and ask. Hopes this helps you out and good luck.

gophergunner,
There is a great source for this information on the MN DNR web site.  From home, go to maps.  The left side has numerous options to select.  You can look at old aerial photos, watersheds etc.  One option you can select is to show State land, WMA's etc.  Zoom into the area you want to explore and they are all there for you to see.
A few miles southeast of Alex you will see the Forada WMA. 829 acres.
Forada WMA

County: Douglas
Nearest Town: Forada
Directions: From Forada, go 1 1/2 miles E on CSAH 4.
Area: 829.42 acres
Perimeter: 5.8 miles

There are a number of others in the general area.  If you have problems, send me a pm and I can help you get there.

The Forada area has been mentioned to me by my buddy up there.  I'll be checking that area out for sure.
