Q: My deer hunting zone is classified as a “lottery zone” this year. What does that mean for my licensing options, and what deer can I take?

A: In efforts to manage deer harvest and allow population growth, some zones this year are classified as “lottery” zones. This license designation means that a deer license is valid only for taking a legal antlered deer (buck) in that zone or any other zone designated as “lottery,” unless you applied for and were awarded an antlerless tag under the lottery system for that specific zone. The deadline to apply for the lottery was Sept. 8.

Once you harvest a deer in a lottery zone, you may not harvest another deer in any bucks-only, youth-only antlerless, lottery or hunter choice areas. Bonus permits are not allowed in any bucks-only, youth-only antlerless, lottery or hunter choice deer area.
