Yeah real aware of those Nevada tests... considered why there is a much higher risk of thyroid cancer in us born in the 1950's growing up in the upper midwest.  Prevailing winds dropped the radioactive strontium dust that was picked up by dairy cows and then drank in our milk.  ND,SD and parts of Mn have the highest rates of thyroid cancer in the yuppie generation in the US.

Right you are. Remember when the gubmint dropped the radioactive dust over the Mpls./St. Paul area in the late 50's so they could track it through school kids "blood tests"? We were only so many guinea pigs in the 50's and 60's, and 90% of it we never knew about. A large, too large, portion of my classmates from our graduating class ('73) have passed away due to weird crap....pancreatic cancer, brain tumors, thyroid cancer, breast cancer, etc. Myself and a friend have noted in our yearbook all our classmates that have died, when and from what. My friend is/was a pathologist at Mayo, and the Olmsted count coroner. Out of curiosity, I took all this data to him, just to see what he thought. His view? WAY, way,  out of proportion. He thought it would make a great study...

Finally thought of it....was known as "Operation LAC".  From a few excerpts...it's scary!~!!

Earlier tests[edit]
There were several tests that occurred prior to the first spraying affiliated with Operation LAC that proved the concept of large-area coverage. Canadian historical files relating to participation in the tests cite in particular three previous series of tests leading up to those conducted in Operation LAC.[1]

September 1950 – Six simulated attacks were conducted upon the San Francisco Bay Area. It was concluded that it was feasible to attack a seaport city with biological aerosol agents from a ship offshore.
March–April 1952 – Five trials were conducted off the coast of South Carolina and Georgia under Operation Dew. It was concluded that long-range aerosol clouds could obtain hundreds of miles of travel and large-area coverage when disseminated from ground level under certain meteorological conditions.
1957 – North Sea, East coast of Britain. It was shown that large-area coverage with particles was feasible under most meteorological conditions.
In addition, the army admitted to spraying in Minnesota locations from 1953 into the mid-1960s.

I just received my annual calendar from the Monticello nuclear plant.  In it are instructions on what to do and where to go if the place blows up. (no mention of bending over and kissing your arse goodbye).  Also, it has a form to fill out and bring to Target to get iodine pills to help prevent thyroid damage.  And how was your day.

No, but it does include a big "NOTIFIED" sign that you put in your window or on your mail box.  If you don't have that, you can put a white towel or sheet out.

WOW!!!  Now that is some info.   They spray for squitos here which works great...  BUT I also wonder how safe it really is.  We go in the house and close the windows when they do it.  But man it does a number on the squitos.

Also lots of spuds raised in the Ottertail area where I lived for about 6 years.  People there are worried about all of the spraying they do to the spuds.  Especially the spray that kills them before they harvest..   They now use choppers more instead of planes so they are more accurate and the chopper blades pound the chemicals down better than the planes did.   Still houses and towns are right across the road from the fields.  Not to mention we eat the spuds that have been sprayed.
