    Vikings sign former Patriots, Cardinals WR Michael Floyd to one-year deal

 
Michael Floyd reportedly is heading home to play for the Minnesota Vikings, signing a one-year deal with the team, according to USA Today.

The 27-year-old receiver grew up in St. Paul, Minn., so he’s going to be playing fairly close to home next season – much closer than Arizona and New England, which were his [past two stops in the NFL.
He was given a second chance by the Patriots last year after he was arrested for an “extreme DUI,”  tut_tut-3315.gif but Floyd never took full advantage. He caught only four passes for 42 yards in two games with the Patriots, leading to his availability in free agency.

With the Cardinals, he showed flashes of being a good No. 2 receiver. In 2013, he caught 65 passes for 1,041 yards and five touchdowns, proving to be a solid deep threat in the passing game.

Floyd hasn’t eclipsed 1,000 yards since and saw his production decrease dramatically in 2016 (37 catches, 488 yards).

The key parts of the NFL offseason are in the books as we’re now past free agency and the draft. The only thing left for most teams to do is sort out their rosters and find out where each player fits.

There won’t be much movement from this point forward with very few impactful free agents still available.

He is very talented but again now he is given his third chance after some jail time.  Hopefully he will keep his act together and keep his mind on football.  good luck.

Good low risk high reward signing. We don't currently have a #1 receiver. Diggs starts off hot then tails off as season goes on an he seems to miss 1-3 games a year so far. Theilen is a solid receiver. After that it's up in the air. Treadwell, well I don't know what to say about him because he just don't play(not a good thing) Floyd who is from mn I'm hoping turns it all around. He is close to family now so I'm hoping that will keep him clean. The Vikings have a decent enough track record of picking up semi problematic players an turning there careers around. Chris carter jared Allen. Everson griffin was a first round talent that we got in the 4-5th round because of problems in college an he has stayed clean his whole career.

Darn right CG I totally agree.  I hope he dies turn out as good as the others we gave a third chance....  I am excited about it.  I have heard that he may have a 4 game suspension but hope not.

The Vikings signed wide receiver Michael Floyd on Wednesday, offering him the chance to return to play where he grew up as part of a receiver group that also includes Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen and Laquon Treadwell.

Floyd may not actually be joining them for a while. He was sentenced to 24 days in jail and 96 days of house arrest in Arizona after a guilty plea to resolve a 2016 extreme drunk driving arrest. That house arrest period would run through the Vikings’ offseason program, although Matt Vensel of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports Floyd may be able to serve the remainder of the sentence in Minnesota.

An NFL suspension of at least two games seems inevitable as well, something Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman acknowledged in a statement regarding Floyd’s signing.

“Coach [Mike] Zimmer and I are confident Michael Floyd has learned and grown from his past decisions,” Spielman said. “He has accepted full responsibility and is taking encouraging steps to improve. We have offered Michael the full support and assistance of the Minnesota Vikings organization and our player development programs. We are aware that Michael is subject to discipline from the NFL and will work with both him and the NFL in a professional manner. We are excited to have Michael and believe he can be a productive member of our football team and community.”

Floyd said he has been training this offseason in addition to “taking responsibility and paying the consequences for my mistake.” That process won’t be done until the league weighs in, but the Vikings’ willingness to take the plunge before knowing that outcome suggests Floyd should get that chance to produce when he’s available to do so.
