Well, if you've dug it out, poured and leveled the sand, now you just lay the pavers. You can use a verified straight 2x4" on edge across them, as you lay a row, and wham on the top of that with a rubber mallet to bring them into line. Then pour on the finish sand on top and sweep down into cracks. Walk it when done. That's it. I've done a lot of that with pavers and bricks. Just did an area this Spring.

its the leveling part im not good at. i could pound 4 corner steaks, an run carpenter string around leveling that the level the sand to the string and the lay bricks.

Do yer string then; get someone on the other end of the 2x4", and level it away right under the string with a 4' or bigger level on top of the 2x4". Re-do as needed. Ya can also line the string across in a couple spots, or make an "X", level the string, and eyeball from the ground level as someone pours the sand in and pushes it around...Don't know what else to tell ya buddy.....

Do the string thing then, eyeball it, add where needed, and just screed it best ya can. Ground will shift anyway!  ;)
Might wanna put some rod or stakes in on downhill side edge to help keep from shifting that way....

Use the polimerik sand to fill the top cracks when you are done.   It keeps the ants from living under paver and bringing the sand up on top. Worth every penny.
Anything that is free is worth saving up for.
