I guess the real story is don't carry Cheetos in bear country.  After my encounters this year, I have no doubt about how the bear reacted.  Of course there is NO way they could out run a bear.  The bear I shot yesterday, clearly followed my path to the deer stand.  He was not just ambling by because the trail he followed turned about 20 feet from my stand but he went straight to my stand following directly where I walked sniffing the ground/brush as he went. He only stopped when he realized what he was tracking went up a tree.

Sure makes ya think twice about tent camping in the woods. Used to do a lot of that. My girlfriend and I drove way out into the boonies one day, on some acreage of my friends, and hiked a ways to set up a tent down by a nice stream we found. Woke up in the early morning hours to something snuffling and snorting right outside the tent. We were both scared sh**less, as it kept "snorting" and nosed the tent a few times. It quit after a while, and we could hear it moving away. When I could finally unfreeze myself, peered out thru the tent window, and there it was, twenty feet away.......two cows. Found out later that was an area he pastured them in... :doah:

Silly hikers.

They should have just pulled out their bear spray from their little hiking hip bag!  :coffee:

Next time I might carry my .44 Mag.  Only problem is it's a single shot so I would have to make it count.  5 feet or less before I pull the trigger.

Carrying that, if ya confront a bear, ya can ask him: "Do ya feel lucky, punk?" "Well, do ya?" :rotflmao:
