  :police: Ask a Conservation Officer:

Can someone else check my traps?

Q: Can I purchase a trapping license and have someone else trap for me if I am not present while setting or tending the traps? In addition, do you need to be present for the registration of any animals that are trapped?

A: A licensed trapper can appoint an authorized agent to tend their traps. "Authorized agent" means a person, authorized in writing by the trapper, who possesses all necessary licenses for trapping, and can check, tend, or reset traps set by the other trapper. However, in the case of otter, marten, fisher, and bobcat, the trapper who will be removing the animal from the trapping site, and whose tag is going on the animal, must be present to validate and tag that animal with his or her own site validation coupon at the site of the kill. When registering otter, marten, fisher and bobcat, the person whose site validation coupon is on the pelt must be the one presenting that pelt at registration. Please see page 55 of the 2018 Hunting and Trapping Regulations for specific details on registration of these animals.
