I love spicy food and I can eat very spicy food with the best of them.  Well I met my match and failed big time.  Was planning on burgers on the grill yesterday so I wanted to buy some spicy hot pickle chips.  usually get the spicy/sweet type but these "ghost pepper" pickles caught my eye.  Ya that's the ticket.  They don't make commercial pickles that hot anyway I thought.  Got home and had to try them right away.  Put 3 slices in my mouth and bam.  Chewed them up and I had to catch my breath.  My wife said what's wrong.  I said these were HOT!!!  She asked if I wanted some water.  I said the heck with that "I'm starting my beers early". 

So my son-in law came today to pic up their dog Hank.  I told him I put a jar of the pickles in their bag that came with Hank because I know my daughter loves hot foods as well.  Told him how hot they were.  He opened the jar and took just one slice.  And some adult works came out of his mouth and we gave him a bottle of water.  So he took the pickles with him for my daughter to try.  I think the brand was Gedney Ghost pickles.  Never again, so if you see them, skip them or eat them at your own perril.  good luck.

 :rotflmao: :rotflmao: Sorry, been there, done that! A mouthful of milk held for a few seconds takes the heat away.....anything carbonated will make it worse. Learned that MANY moons ago when cooking peppers for my Uncle's restaurant green chile sauce... :tongue:

Had a young guy I worked with that like spicy food too. A couple times someone brought in 1 of those ghost peppers & left it on the table in the lunch room. Seen him & somebody else both grab 1 & chow down.  :tut: :crazy: They usually turned 'bout 6-8 different shades of red, coughed for 5-10 minutes, & drank a bunch of water before they got a little better. :bonk: :doofus:

 :rotflmao: :rotflmao:  I like some jalapeno hot things but not the super hot stuff.  I do like those jars of Mazetti California Hot Mix type of things.

Same here.  I make Korean spicy foods and some of them are spicy but with good flavor.  Even Korean kimchi is spicy but it's addicting.   But ghost peppers are no longer in my playbook.  More than overpowering.  I want the combination of enough heat without destroying the flavor of the meal.  Cant see that these Gedney ghost pepper pickles will be a seller for them.  One time try and by by.  good luck.

Exactly, RH. These guys that think they're tough or cool or whatever and dump a buncha ghost or jabenero sauce or that kinda crap to make their mouth flame is ridiculous. It kills the taste right there, ya might as well be eating roadkill. There's a couple knobs on TV that do it, one with spiky dyed blond hair thinks that's the way to go. That clown isn't even a cook, much less a chef. Can't stand the guy. Anywho, spices and heat haveta be balanced out and smooth....one can't overpower the other. First thing ya learn in cooking school. My hellfire chili is pretty hot, but I learned many years ago from a champion chili cooker how to smooth it out....add chocolate. I use a good brand liquid chocolate. Takes just a few big Tbsps to smooth out the heat, but it's still there. Don't believe it? Try it!

I see the ghost pepper plants at the nurseries and say why? Not me, but all my jars of pickles get some zing. Between the serrano plants, birds eye ( which are real hot) , cayenne and galopenos they have plenty for heat for me. And a little sweet onion to boot.. :happy1:

I kinda like the smokiness of a ghost pepper. I make a couple jars of ghost pepper pickles a year extra.....because only the one son in law, and me are the ones that really like them.

Wow Reb those have to beat the ghost peppers big time but if they are they equal eating fire.  Got a update on the sale of the Gedney ghost peppers.  I talked to the grocery manager at the store and talked to him about the ghost demons.  Explained to him about how I like heat and that I predict that they will sell slow or not at all.  He told me they were good sellers.  So I was wrong but man If they like them being a food lover good for them.  good luck.
